During a silent retreat, my spiritual director asked me to make an altar outdoors, using only items in the vicinity. I gathered moss and lichen from rotting logs, added "precious" items like feathers and acorns, surrounded that with pine cones and dried pine needles. There is an overall A-frame structure covering it, and then it was later encased in sticks.
