Amputee's Regrowth
Acrylic painting on canvas. This image, sans background, came to me during a meditation. When I sketched it out, I was taken aback by the "amputation" aspect. Out the window of my studio, I could see trumpet vines growing on my neighbor's garage and I knew they had to be part of the painting. When I added the trumpet vine, it naturally came out of the hair and I discovered the seed pods (that look like beans) echoed the hair, the buds echoed the amputated arms and the flowers echoed the lily. The cycle of growth is symbolized by the seeds dropping from the mouth and growing up through the bellybutton. The mature growth comes from the head, and the arms, though previously cut off, are now producing a flower and fruit. Interior growth can stem from our wounds. Before I completed the painting, my job was "severed" and the vines were completely ripped from the garage. I found this interesting as well.
