Strangling in Solitude
Acrylic painting. An homage to a lyric in the Suzanne Vega song "The Queen and the Soldier" about a woman who refuses to be vulnerable and the price everyone pays (I cry almost every time I hear it). I wanted to title it "Strangling in the Solitude I Prefer" but that seemed too long. I often find myself preferring solitude, but sometimes I feel that way because I don't want to be vulnerable - because I might get hurt. That is why I chose to "strangle" myself with my own braid - I'm doing it to myself.
